Karaktären "Madeleine" är hämtad från Hitchcocks film Vertigo (1958) där Kim Novak spelar Madeleine och James Stewart har den manliga huvudrollen. Han försöker förgäves återskapa Madeleine, kvinnan han blev förälskad i och tror sig ha mist, men han är offer för en komplott. I filmen faller individer handlöst på olika sätt. Ett är förälskelsens livsfarliga lek, att våga kasta sig ut utan säkerhetslina trots höjdskräck. Madeleines frisyr är en virvel, ett svart hål där man kan sugas ner. Hålet blir som en komprimerad bild för allt detta fallande. Det är också en öppning genom bildens olika lager, mannens bortvända rygg och hans blick bortåt, kvinnans blick inåt och betraktarens blick utifrån. The character "Madeleine" is derived from Hitchcocks film Vertigo (1958) where Kim Novak plays Madeleine and James Stewart has the male leading part. He is in vain trying to recreate Madeleine, the woman he got in love with but believes he has lost; he is though a victim for a plot. In the film people are headlong falling in different ways. One way is the fatal play of love, to dare to throw oneself out without any lifeline in spite of fright of heights. Madeleine´s hairstyle is a whirl, a black hole where one can be absorbed. The hole is becoming like a compressed image for all this falling. It is also an opening through the different layers of the image, the turned away back of the man and his turned away look, the look of the woman inward and the viewers look from outside.
